Generation Hope is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) organization founded by Abdirahman Warsame and Khadar Abi in 2019.

Since its inception, Generation Hope has been dedicated to creating a better, safer, and more connected community for individuals experiencing drug addiction and substance use disorders in the greater East African community of the Twin Cities Metro area.

We are a Somali-led organization, and our team includes individuals in recovery, mental health professionals such as licensed counselors and peer recovery support specialists, and community members.

What We Do.

Generation Hope is the first culturally-specific nonprofit organization in the East African community dedicated to addressing addiction and mental health.

We are an East African-led organization. With a team that includes individuals in recovery, mental health professionals such as licensed counselors and peer recovery support specialists — as well as committed members of the community

The personal experiences of our team with addiction and recovery have earned us a reputation as a trusted resource in our community and beyond.

We believe in providing dedicated resources and support to individuals seeking to overcome addiction and mental health challenges.

Our Programs.

Peer Recovery Support Programs.

Our Peer Recovery Support program connects individuals in recovery to support one another in their unique pathways to recovery. Through peer recovery, individuals in recovery maintain a support system that aids in staying sober and overall wellness. We offer culturally specific services to East-African individuals suffering from substance use disorder and those in recovery, equipped with cultural competency due to our East-African backgrounds. As the only culturally-specific non-profit organization offering such services within the Twin Cities.

We Navigate Forward: Collaborating with local businesses, we carve out employment paths for those who’ve faced past barriers, viewing every future through a lens of untapped potential.

We Unleash Capacities: Our myriad of training, spanning from foundational computer skills to specialized career training, ensures every individual finds their footing in their desired field.

We Extend Our Hands: From skill development to multi-faceted support, we lay down a bridge, navigating through barriers to facilitate seamless journeys towards career aspirations.

We Tailor Touchpoints: Every initiative is meticulously woven, reflecting the unique needs of the East African community, ensuring our approach resonates and yields impactful outcomes
