EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE & RESOURCES:
United Way 211: United Way 211 is a statewide program that can provide assistance for everything from free and confidential health and human services, mental health resources, housing, utilities, food, and more. They are a crisis center and open 24 hours.
Hennepin County Department of Economic Assistance: They provide cash assistance for a variety of situations depending on the need, family size, current circumstances, and other qualifying situations. Benefits can be applied for online or by phone between the hours of 9AM-3PM.
TruConnect: If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can get one free smartphone and monthly service for your household. Ready to connect? TruConnect offers Lifeline in 37 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Qualifying programs include: Medicaid / Medi-Cal, SNAP / CalFresh, Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Veteran and Survivors Pension Benefit, Multiple Tribal Assistance Programs, And more!
Metrotransit: Sign them up for this program. They will get a bus card where they can ride unlimited for $1 a day. Help with rides to medical appts: MEDcab- Have them call service number on back of insurance card to set up rides for any medical appointments.
